Metals changing direction?

As the chart below shows, gold appears to be trying to put in a bottom at the moment. The last couple of month's price action has been directionless and volatile, which may well be part of the process of changing trend.

Interestingly, I've noticed that a few of the gold miners have started breaking out to the upside (couple of examples below).

The chart of silver is also showing similar characteristics, and the precious metals area is certainly one to keep an eye on in the coming days and weeks.
